This fine AMETHYST QUARTZ SCEPTER comes from the Little Gem Mine, Boulder Batholith, near Butte, Jefferson County, Montana. This large crystal has a classic scepter formation, and was collected by Bob Jackson in 2013. I purchased it from him from his SUV "showroom" in a parking lot deal at the Tucson Gem, Rock & Mineral Show.

The mine is best know for producing smoky quartz crystals with second generation scepter and jacare (elestial) overgrowths. The amethyst ranges from lilac to dark purple in color. Amethyst scepters are rare, as is jacare amethyst. The Little Gem is the only worldwide locality that is producing jacare amethyst.
