1.1 The electricity generation target of conventional sources for the year 2020-21 has been fixed as 1330 Billion Unit (BU). i.e. growth of around 6.33% over actual conventional generation of 1250.784 BU for the previous year (2019-20).

CEA is the apex planning body for the power sector while Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is the sectoral regulator. As part of amending the existing Indian Electricity Grid Code, CERC has suggested tightening the frequency band to 49.95-50.05 Hertz.

The report by the committee headed by A.S. Bakshi, chairman of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), India’s top power sector planning body, blamed the outage on a dangerous imbalance—too much power being drawn by northern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana and too little of it by those in the west.

Even though Maharashtra shares the second spot with West Bengal in power sector as per an assessment by union power ministry, a recent report by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) places it in the middle so far as power shortage is concerned. CEA has estimated that Maharashtra will face around 10% energy shortage in 2013-14.

The CEA is the apex planning body for the country’s power sector. According to Chaturvedi, there is a need to look at the quality of performance of Chinese power equipment. The CEA report, prepared after getting inputs from various quarters including power project developers, has found that the performance of Chinese gear has not been too well.
